The National Beef Sustainability Assessment benchmarks the environmental, social and economic performance of the Canadian beef industry. It highlights the areas where industry is doing well, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
The first National Beef Sustainability Assessment, released in October 2016, benchmarked the current status of the Canadian beef industry across environmental, social and economic parameters, and provided a baseline to monitor and measure progress in future assessments. The assessment informed the development of the CRSB’s Sustainability Strategy to help target future work, particularly under the CRSB’s Sustainability Projects pillar.
Future assessments will monitor progress and improvement across all three pillars of sustainability. CRSB plans to conduct the assessments every 5-7 years.

Deloitte and Canfax Research Services were commissioned to conduct the assessment, which was reviewed by an external third-party panel of experts. Subsequent assessments will be guided by the CRSB’s Scientific Advisory Committee.
